The Radiology Department at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center provides high quality diagnostic services. Staffed by a board certified radiologist and highly qualified, credentialed technical staff, the department provides a complete line of specialty services to the community and the physicians in the area.

MARMC’s Radiology Department uses medical radiation and diagnostic imaging techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The Department works with the most advanced technology available allowing the early diagnosis of many diseases and disorders without surgical procedures.
Recent advancements in the Department include advanced digital fluoroscopy and a new mammography unit is slated for 2011. The Department is staffed with Registered Radiologic Technologists and support personnel.
Medical Imaging
A Medical imaging is a process used to create images of the human body (or parts and function thereof) for clinical purposes. At Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, for example, medical imaging encompasses x-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and nuclear medicine. These images are used by physicians to diagnose, treat and prevent illnesses or injuries. Diagnostic x-rays available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Images and reports of all modalities are available from our PACS system via secure internet connection.
Bone Densitometry
Mineral Area Regional Medical Center’s bone densitometer takes Bone Mineral Density (BMD) measurements, which enable our radiologist to determine a patient’s risk of fracture and osteoporosis. Our professionally trained and certified staff utilizes a GE Lunar Advance Dexascan for high-resolution imaging and fast, precise measurements. CT Scan
The Hi Speed CT technology allows for 3D image reconstruction which reduces radiation exposure, exam time and provides improved imaging capabilities. Our 4 slice helical CT scanners are equipped with 3-D capabilities. This system is extremely fast and produces excellent image quality that can assist doctors with diagnosing cancer, spinal injuries, pediatric conditions, trauma damage, and vascular anomalies. CAT Scans are available Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Emergency call after hours and holidays. Recently installed GE Optima 32 slice scanner capable of performing 3-D and angiography procedures. Extended hours offer patients appointments that fit their schedules.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( Open MRI)
MRI is a painless alternative to X-rays. With a large magnet, radiowaves and a computer, your body is scanned to provide very detailed pictures of areas that cannot be viewed on conventional X-rays. MRI exams make it possible for physicians to examine certain types of tissue and obtain important information that will help them in the diagnosis of disease, bone and joint abnormalities and a multitude of other possibilities. A non-invasive and painless procedure, MRI can detect strokes, tumors and other types of disease at an early stage. MRI is also helpful in detecting torn ligaments and herniated spinal discs. Open MRI is available Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. ACR Certified Department. Extended hours offer patients appointments that fit their schedules.
Digital Mammography (ACR Accredited)
Mammograms are low energy X-rays of the breast that are used to screen apparently normal breasts for cancer. Early detection of breast cancer is known to save lives. Yearly mammograms are recommended for women 40 and over, though screening schedules should be determined by your physician. And Mineral Area Regional Medical Center will soon have the power of technology in providing digital mammography. With highly detailed images for a more accurate and timely diagnosis. All of our mammography services are performed by registered Radiological Technologists, who all have specialized training in mammography. Our mammography program meets all of the guidelines set by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).Mammography available Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. ACR and FDA certified.
Ultrasound
Our Imaging Services offers a full range of ultrasound services that includes cardiac, obstetrical and gynecologic, vascular, abdominal and breast imaging. Our Ultrasound machines can demonstrate even the smallest abnormality. Our ultrasound sonographers perform common ultrasound exams including Abdomen, OB/GYN, Thyroid, Breast imaging, and prostate imaging. Ultrasound is available Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Emergency call after hours, weekends and holidays. Two units are available for general and vascular procedures and another unit is available for echocardiograms and echocardiograms with color flow Doppler.
Nuclear Medicine
Our dual camera and computer system provide detailed, high resolution images, including brain and whole body, in both 360 degrees and planar configurations. This gives the physicians the most accurate information possible on which to base their diagnosis. Nuclear Medicine is available Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Emergency call after hours, weekends and holidays. Performing all major procedures including HIDA, Cardiac Stress testing, Bone Scans, I-123 Thyroid uptakes and Brain SPECT scans.
